About Monk Seal : The Hawaiian monk seal is one of the most critically endangered animals in the world, with only around 1100 left. This species lives only in the Hawaiian islands. Unlike other seals, Hawaiian monk seals do not live in large groups. Once they are old enough to leave their mother, they spend most of their time alone. Scientists are studying these rare animals to learn more about them. Seals are sometimes tagged in the tail flipper so that they can be tracked by scientists and identified later. The better we can understand the Hawaiian monk seals’ behavior and needs, the more we can do to help the seals survive.
